I had posted this discussion of the related releases on the Kama, Krishna, Lewis and Aegis record labels when I wrote about the Roosters, but it deserves its own page. I am still uncertain as to who was behind these labels, how they were related and if the same production company ran the Chadwicks Recording Studio.

Kama Records

The Ultimates “Lost Romance” (Foti-O’Donnell) / “Foreign Girl” (Dick Broderick – both songs Harbor Music ASCAP) on Kama K-43 (unrelated label?).

Maureen Fitzgerald – “Twinkle In His Eye” / “His Own Kind of Rhythm” (Kama 502, division of Kama Productions)

Ted Alexander and The Cordels – “Baby You Can Drive My Car” / “Please Go” (Kama 106, with picture sleeve)

Eric and the Chessmen have “You Don’t Want My Loving” / “Blue Skies” on Kama Records 777, L-99-1/2. The labels note “Recorded at Chadwicks Recording Studio”, in Chadwicks, NY, a small hamlet along Route 8 south of Utica, and a few miles east of Clinton, NY and Hamilton College.

The Ally Kahns – “Gonkletwerp” (instrumental by Brady, Kennerly and Caryl) / “Blue Moon” (Kama 780)

The Avengers – “Reflection” (C. Wheeler) / “Irresistable You” (Kama 790) from April of 1967, also recorded at Chadwicks and produced by A. Polacelli.

Audrey De Lia and the Western Aces cut “Kansas City” b/w a version of Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough” on Kama 1070.

In the 1970s, Kama released two modern soul singles by Target, “Give Me One More Chance” / “Cleveland” (Kama 814) and “Look at Me” / “You’re So Beautiful” (Kama 815), and a 45 by Sonja Bonness “I’m the Only Woman” / “Black Satin” (1977).

The Starfires Lewis 45 VampireLewis Records

The Starfires “Vampire” (by James Palladino for Kajobe Music, BMI) / “Honky Tonk Twist” on Lewis Records 525 A/B, with mastering #s W-189 & W-190. The labels read “distributed by Kama Productions, Utica, NY.”

Aegis Records

The Bel Airs – “You Left Me (For Somebody New)” / “You’re the Greatest” Aegis Records ARS 1001). Gates Initino, vocal. Other members were Guy Vivenzo, Dick Laurey, Jim Hanna and Jon Hynes). Distributed by Bason Agency, Utica. Also known as the Plaids, they had a 45 on Stentor RR101 “Vampire” (also done by the Starfires on Lewis) / “Creepin'” (Vivenzo) from Stentor Recording Co., Utica. Stentor had at least two other releases: Brian Wilson & the Del Vues “Blue Skies” / “Blueberry Hill” (RB-165) and Bebo Singleton with Jeff & the Notes “The Shrine of the Echoes” / “Feeny Jones” (RM 101)

The Royals – “Shake It” / “Mix Up” (both written by Fran Migliaccio) on Aegis 1003, W-194

Krishna

The Roosters – “The Rooster Song” / “Lost And Found” (Krishna TR 2690)

Buddha Records

The Roosters – “I Wanna Do It” / “You Don’t Need Any Reason”

Are there any other releases from this series of labels?

Does anyone know who was producing or engineering these recordings?
